Total fleet capacity Total bus fleet capacity, in terms of the total number of passenger places (i.e seats and accommodation for standing passengers) is obtained by totaling the capacities of every bus in the system. It is important that only operational buses are included in this calculation: many bus fleets in developing countries include large numbers of buses which are no longer operational, and as such make no contribution to system capacity.
Bus fleet information should be available from vehicle license records. A problem encountered in some developing country is inaccurate data from this source: vehicles which are no longer licensed, or have been scrapped, are often not deleted from the records.
