PPIAF Supports Telecommunications Transformation in Afghanistan: Expanding Affordable Access by Introducing Competition

In 2003 PPIAF provided a grant to create a regulatory regime to support private sector participation in the mobile telecommunications sector in Afghanistan. Support for the design of the licensing and competition frameworks, the construction of an interconnect policy and a dispute resolution mechanism, and the design and implementation of systems and procedures led to the establishment of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board. PPIAF’s assistance also supported a capacity building seminar and workshop.
