Financing Small Piped Water Systems in Rural and Peri-Urban Kenya
Community run small-scale water systems play a critical role in supplying consumers in the peri-urban and rural areas of Kenya. However, these providers often experience problems that hinder their ability to provide reliable services to consumers and expand their coverage. A pilot program lent ten community water projects 80 million Kenya Shillings (K Shs) (US $ 1-million). This publications discusses valuable lessons learnt from the pilot, which will be useful in the scale-up phase and to other projects using a similar approach to finance small water systems.
