SOUTH AFRICA: Technical Support to Department of Public Enterprises on SOE Reform and Restructuring Plans for Eskom and Transnet

The overall activity provides technical and advisory support to the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) in its role as an agency overseeing the reform of energy and transport SOEs, which are key to South Africa’s economic, social, and environmental wellbeing. Under Transport, the primary objective of the technical assistance is to provide advice, international expertise, and awareness of best practices to the DPE in relation to the reform agenda of Transnet. Under energy, the overall objective of this technical assistance is to advise the DPE on:

• the structure of the power sector to ensure it best meets current and future energy security and climate change objectives,
• options to improve the financial and operational performance of Eskom.
