SOUTH AFRICA: Review of the South Africa Renewable Energy IPP Process

The purpose of this paper was to: (i) document the process by which the REIPPP program was designed and implemented, including changes which have evolved over the program; and (ii) examine lessons learned from the process which might be valuable to other global and regional players developing renewable power programs. By documenting the process to secure $8 billion in private investment for renewable energy investments, the report will contribute to sustainable development objectives in the sub-continent and globally.
