LAO PDR: Enhance the financial and operational sustainability of the power sector

The objective of this activity is to provide advisory support to Electricite du Laos and the Ministry of Energy and Mines in addressing key issues to restore financial and operational sustainability of the power sector in Lao PDR. This activity will:
a)    Undertake a baseline demand projection to be inclusive of all committed and agreed power sales both domestically and internationally;
b)    Explore opportunities to introduce technical innovations and business opportunities to increase domestic demand and export potential in order to absorb the prevailing excess production and seasonality of hydropower; and
c)    Explore measures to be put in place to incentivize private sector investments and PPP options to realize these opportunities.
