KENYA: Support to Solar Energy Development

Government of Kenya (GoK) is considering transitioning from the Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) policy to the auction mechanism for solar energy development that will promote competition and result in better discovery of prices. Preliminary work for developing the auction mechanism will need to be undertaken that will include a grid integration analysis, deployment strategy for solar, as well as exploring options for disrupting technologies like battery storage to better integrate intermittent renewables in the Kenya system to complement hydro and geothermal to meet the future energy needs.
