INDIA: Prefeasibility study for PPP in Power distribution in Jharkhand

In India, various models have been followed for private sector participation in power distribution. The study aimed to assist the distribution licensee in the state of Jharkhand to identify the model that suits its needs the best, given the economic and political considerations. Further to the preparation by the team of a concept note discussing the various options possible for involving private sector participation in electricity distribution in the state of Jharkhand, the Board of the state-owned distribution company (JBVNL) gave its go-ahead to proceed with a PPP transaction. The state of Jharkhand, under a World Bank-funded operation, then initiated the process of appointing transaction advisors to help with the structuring of PPP transactions in power distribution in two large areas of the state.
