GLOBAL: Improving Private Solutions in Hydropower Projects

The proposed activity will identify the principal barriers to private solutions in hydropower, the financing mechanisms used to leverage private financing, and the role of the World Bank and other development finance institutions in these mechanisms. The activity will achieve this through a three-phased approach:

1. A global stocktaking of different types of hydropower projects that attracted private solutions
2. The creation of an analytical framework to estimate hydropower project risk and a list of case studies of hydropower projects financed by the World Bank
3. Intelligence collected from relevant stakeholders (policy-makers, private sponsors, and financiers) for the case study projects
