ETHIOPIA: Supporting Innovative Electrification Activities

The requested PPIAF funding will go towards informing the reactivation and set-up of a revamped Rural Electrification Fund (REF) which will lead the rural electrification agenda and serve as a non-bank financial intermediary, for private enterprises in the off-grid sector. With a specific focus on rural electrification and energy financing, REF will act as a financial intermediary providing resources to the private sector and other players to increase their participation in the energy sector. Additional support will be in the development of a technical, regulatory and policy assessment to identify barriers to implementing smart grid infrastructure in the country.
