BANGLADESH: Assessing and Improving PSP in Dhaka Public Transport

This PPIAF intervention allowed to evaluate and strengthen Bangladesh's institutional capacity and regulatory framework to enable the proper use of PPP for public transport projects in Dhaka. It involved the delivery of capacity-building training on PPP option, based on which the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority decided to study the rationalization of bus routes and fostering of private operation of bus services in Dhaka. It also started a feasibility study and conceptual design of the proposed bus terminal and depot to help define the main contours of a larger reform program. As a result of the activity, the Bus Route Rationalization Committee, chaired by the honorable Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, proposed to fast-track the reform process and has decided to launch a pilot bus route franchise from Ghatarchar to Mothijheel from April 2021.
