GLOBAL: Africites Summit Seminar on PEFA Methodology and Land Finance

This activity supported the participation of 31 CFOs from municipalities across Africa at the Africites Summit in Dakar in December 2012. PPIAF sponsored two thematic sessions during the summit in partnership with United Cities and Local Governments Africa. The first of these sessions discussed the use of land-based financing to fund municipal infrastructure projects. The second city discussed the use of the PEFA methodology to assess municipalities. PPIAF presented the SNTA program's work in support of municipal PEFA studies at this session. Several of the municipalities that received PEFA assessments with support from the SNTA program attended the session and discussed their experiences with the study. One of the key lessons learned from these experiences was the need to partner with central governments on issues of municipal finance, as several of the PEFA indicators incorporate policies and actions from the central, as well as local, government. The sessions were delivered in French and English, with simultaneous translation.
